Baby Shower Cake Decorating Ideas
Of all the milestone events in a person’s life, none is more special than becoming a parent. Having a baby changes the lives of the new mom and dad in unimaginable ways. When a relative or close friend announces the blessed event, you want to honor her. You can celebrate and be involved in preparing for the baby’s arrival by hosting a baby shower. You’ll want to include a special cake at the shower to be the centerpiece of the day and provide a unifying element for the party.
To decide how to decorate the cake, brainstorm all the accessories associated with babies, then choose a design that represents “baby.” Here’s a start to your list: stroller, booties, bottle, pacifier, nursery rhymes, crib, diaper pin, blocks, teddy bear, stork. This certainly isn’t a comprehensive list, but it gives you an idea of all the different themes you could incorporate into your decorating ideas.
Your cake can be a simple sheet cake with any of the above items depicted in frosting on the top of the cake. Or, if you’re creative, you could bake a cake in the shape of one of the baby-themed items. For example, a stroller would be easy to create with two smallish round cakes for the wheels, and a larger round cake with a wedge cut out of it to represent the basket. Or, experiment with cupcakes placed in the shape of baby booties and frosted in beautiful pastel colors (you might need to slice some of the cupcakes to achieve just the right shape).
You could also use a favorite nursery rhyme as a theme for the cake. For instance, a cake illustrating Mother Goose, The Cow Jumping over the Moon, or Winkin’, Blinkin’, and Nod, would be colorful and appropriate for a baby shower. If you ask every guest to bring a children’s book to the party, the mom-to-be will have a great start to building her baby’s library, and the whole shower will have a special theme.
If the guest of honor already knows the sex of the baby, use pink or blue as the primary color. Sometimes a woman will choose a name before the baby is born. In that case, you could even write the baby’s name in frosting for a very personalized cake.
